CONDEATE TREATMENT

The condensate that is formed during the production of compressed air is, depending on the operating conditions and the environment, more or less saturated with impurities and oil. These harmful substances can pose a burden to the environment.

Why is condensate treated?

According to the Water Law Act: "those who discharge sewage into water or land are obliged to ensure water protection against pollution, in particular by building and operating devices for this protection."

In order to obtain water with parameters enabling discharge to the sewage system in accordance with legal regulations, it is necessary to use condensate treatment.

What is a compressor separator?

All processes involving compression, cooling and treatment of compressed gas result in the formation of condensate, which contains a smaller or larger number of lubricant molecules, which depends on the type of compressor used. Oil or water separators are a simple but necessary element that does not require electricity.

The device separates oil through a filtration process. These substances - oil or water - are absorbed from the compressed air by special components of the cartridges, which prevent them from entering the system again. At the end of the process, the condensate can be discharged into the sewage system in accordance with applicable regulations.

In the oil separator, the compressed gas is cleaned of oil particles and then sent further. To maintain appropriate properties, this compressed air treatment element should be replaced during periodic service inspections of compressors.

Categories of separators used in pneumatic systems

Our offer includes several types of separators. They can be divided according to the method of operation - i.e. what components it separates from the air and from the installation site. Within this division we distinguish:

The cyclone separator is designed to eliminate condensate from compressed gas. It is installed in pipelines or compressed air lines. The cyclone separator eliminates condensate by introducing swirling compressed air through the pipes.

As a result, impurities settle on the walls of the device and are discharged through a dedicated pipe. This type of separator is most common in pneumatic systems and is an element of the equipment of basic filters, filter reducers and air preparation stations.

Water-oil separator - purpose

The water-oil separator is designed to separate condensate into oil and water. The device has an insert whose task is to absorb oil particles and separate them from water. The latter is drained from the system using a dedicated cable or tube. H2O recovered in this way can be discharged into the sewage system in an environmentally safe manner.

The oil collected in the filter cartridge can be disposed of in an appropriate waste container. Due to environmental protection regulations, the disposal of unseparated condensate into the sewage system is an offense and is punishable by a fine. If water-oil separators are not used, it is necessary to collect the condensate and dispose of it in accordance with applicable regulations.

The oil separator is intended for systems in which it is important to separate the lubricant in order to prevent its particles from entering the screw module to other parts of the system in oil-lubricated compressors. It is used in screw and vane compressors. It is located behind the compression module.

Compressed air contaminated with water and oil may cause:

  • decrease in the efficiency of the air compression system,
  • contamination of final products,
  • damage to the compressing element, consumable parts (e.g. filters) or the compressed air transmission system,
  • excessive increase in system pressure,
  • damage to pneumatic tools,
  • excessive oil consumption.

Therefore, the use and frequent replacement of separators is crucial for a failure-free production process. Observe the operation of devices operating in the compressed air system. If you notice undesirable behavior of the system or devices, contact our company!

Oil separators should be replaced each time the lubricant is replaced, but at least once a year. This should also be done when the system pressure in the system increases excessively and when the compressor service signal appears. It is worth assuming that the separator will be replaced along with the oil after approx. 3 km. work hours.

In pneumatic systems, it is recommended to use separators of the same brand with technical parameters indicated by the manufacturer. It is best to entrust the appropriate selection to specialized service teams who will use original parts to ensure optimal operation of the compressed air cleaning system to remove lubricant or condensate.

Each device has an individual set of technical data, including dimensions, type of mounting, and is adapted to the use of a specific type of oil separator (can, basket or cartridge separator).

The original separators are designed to suit specific compressor models, while the replacements are manufactured in such a way that they can be used in a variety of devices. As a result, original separators, unlike substitutes, have technical parameters strictly adapted to the requirements of specific compressors, thus guaranteeing efficient operation of the pneumatic system. Non-original separators may cause pressure drops in the network, increase the energy consumption of the compressor and even cause equipment failure.
